How do we ensure that proximity bias doesn’t affect career advancement?
Asked 2 years ago
Hello everyone, I work for a company that has recently transitioned to a hybrid work model and I'm concerned about proximity bias. Are there any specific policies or practices we can put in place to ensure equal opportunities for all our employees, regardless of their physical location? I'd love to hear about any experiences you have on this topic. Thanks in advance for your help!

Ensuring that proximity bias doesn't affect career advancement goes a long way. Firstly, it's important to focus on creating a fair and equitable work environment. This can include implementing policies and practices that support remote work, such as providing equal access to technology and communication tools. Additionally, it's important to establish clear and transparent performance metrics and evaluation criteria that are based on objective measures of job performance, rather than subjective assumptions.
Keep in mind that regular check-ins with remote workers, opportunities for training and development, and support for career growth can also help to mitigate the impact of proximity bias and ensure that all employees have equal opportunities for advancement. Lastly, it's important to foster a culture of inclusion and diversity, as well as to encourage open and honest communication between team members, regardless of their physical location.
