Are BOMA standards for office buildings enforced by law in the US?
Asked 2 years ago
Hey everyone, I’m responsible for ensuring that our office building meets industry standards for safety and efficiency. I'm familiar with the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) standards for office buildings, but I'm not sure if these standards are enforced by law in the US or if it's on a state-by-state basis. Can anyone please clarify this? Thanks.

If you're responsible for your building's safety, it's quite important to understand the BOMA standards regarding space planning and optimization. In the United States, these standards are recognized by many real estate organizations as a reliable way of measuring space, but it's worth noting that they are not enforced by law. Nevertheless, the BOMA standards can be used as a guide for assessing and analyzing office space, but ultimately, owners and landlords must decide how to plan their spaces accordingly. So, compliance with BOMA Standards is voluntary in the US.
