How to factor in different groups with variable desking needs into mobility ratios?
Asked 2 years ago
Hi all, I’m trying to calculate mobility ratios for our workspace, but I'm struggling to factor in different groups with variable desking needs. Our workforce includes a mix of full-time and part-time employees who have fixed desks, flexible desks, and those who are fully mobile and don't have a designated desk. I want to ensure that our mobility ratios accurately reflect the needs of these different groups and that we're optimizing our space for each group. Is there an effective method that can help? Thanks all.

Factoring in different groups with variable desking needs can be done with a proper segmented approach, helping you calculate separate mobility ratios for each group. Here are a few ideas:
- Identify the groups: Consider categorizing your workforce based on your desking needs, like fixed desk users, flexible desk users, fully mobile employees, etc.
- Calculate group-specific ratios: For each group, divide the number of employees by the number of available desks or workspaces. This will give you the group's mobility ratio.
- Weight the ratios: Assign weights to each ratio based on the proportion of employees in that group relative to the total workforce. Doing this ensures that the groups with more employees have a greater impact on the overall mobility ratio.
- Calculate the weighted mobility ratio: Finally, multiply each group-specific ratio by its respective weight, and then sum the products to get the weighted mobility ratio. This ratio will reflect the desking needs of each group, accounting for their relative sizes.
Using these methods can help ensure that your mobility ratios are accurately represented, helping you optimize your workspace accordingly.
