What is BIM (Building Information Modelling) for facility managers?

Hi all, I want to find out more about Building Information Modelling (BIM) and how it can be used to improve my job performance. I know that BIM is a digital representation of a building that includes information about its physical and functional characteristics, but I'm not sure if investing in a BIM design will help with my facility management tasks. Can anyone provide me with some examples of how BIM can help? Thanks.

Building Information Modelling is process-driven technology that can map and quantify any property's physical aspects. It is particularly useful for facility managers as it provides valuable insights into improving space management. 
Facility managers can use BIM to develop effective maintenance programs, as it gives them access to large amounts of data. This data helps with energy efficiency, reduced operating costs, and increased life expectancy.
When passed on to contractors, the data gathered by BIM can be used to reduce the time and effort it takes to renovate and build retrofit projects. This allows managers to reduce the facility budget.
