What are the negatives of an open plan office?
Asked 2 years ago
Hey all, I am the office manager for an e-commerce company. A lot of our employees have discussed in meetings with me that they think an open plan office would be more conducive to workflow and cooperative work. We are not opposed to this idea but would like to assess the positive and negatives of open-plan offices. What are some of the negatives with this office design and do they outweigh the positives? An open floor plan boasts numerous advantages but also some negatives. One is that employees who value privacy may feel like they're being unduly monitored and constantly judged.
The open workplace plan can also be very noisy, decreasing productivity and increasing stress. In the long run, this can compromise health and lead to issues.
Ideally, separate areas should be designated for quiet work, teamwork, and breaks. Use POC's space management tool to help you optimize your workspace. It helps visualize the workplace so you can efficiently allocate space inventory and design room layouts.
