What are the benefits of office neighborhoods?

Hi, I am a Facility manager for a company that has just purchased a new office space. I have heard that some other competitors of ours have their employees split into "neighborhoods" based on projects they are working on. What are the benefits of these neighborhoods compared to normal office planning?

When comparing "office neighborhoods" to the usual workplace layout, you can easily notice that there's a wide range of advantages. One benefit is that they give workers a more personal workspace where they can better design their surroundings to suit their particular needs and requirements. Moreover, colleagues can readily communicate with one another and exchange ideas in these "neighborhoods," increasing collaboration without compromising privacy or making staff feel crowded.
