How much office space is optimal for each employee?
Asked 2 years ago
Hey, I work for an accounting office of a technology company. We are constantly trying to optimize workflow and space and have numerous efficiency metrics. One thing we have not been able to measure yet but is interesting to us is the optimal space per employee for their work. We do not want to waste potential workspace but equally do not hamper our employees by restricting them too much. Does anyone know what office space size per employee is recommended? TYIA

Each worker needs at least 150 to 175 square feet of space to be comfortable. This space is enough to hold their personal items and work equipment, do paperwork, and move around. Open office layout with fewer desks and equipment could do with 100 square feet each.
Some executives may want more space and expect to receive between 200 and 400 square feet.
Consider your budget and how much space you need for break rooms, meeting rooms, and storage. Use POC to visualize the workplace so you can design layouts and allocate space inventory efficiently.
